By Terry has been on my wish list for so long now, about 2 years. Unfortunately the brand is very very pricey! I had been debating whether to purchase something from them for a long time. Luckily I received a 20% off coupon for my birthday from a local store that carries the brand. I ended up purchasing the Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow in the shades 10 Midnight Forest, a stunning deep forest green, and 11 Beyond Gold, a vibrant gold shade that reminded me of gold leaf.
If you are interested in By Terry and you live in America, I know its available now on Beautylish http://www.beautylish.com/s/by-terry-ombre-blackstar-color-fix-cream-eyeshadow-11-beyond-gold and SpaceNK http://us.spacenk.com/by-terry/?par=SPUK101 (not affiliated, etc etc). Apparently By Terry uses a lot of scientific research and new technologies in their formulations, which I suppose is interesting although how much is a marketing tool, I don’t know. The box says that the Ombre Blackstars are packed with Tahitian Black Pearl Extracts which they say is rich in calcium, trace elements and pearl proteins (huh?) for “smoothing, reshaping and perfecting action.” Sounds kinda gimmicky, which usually makes me cranky. Let us see if it lives up to the hype, shall we?
I really like the cream shadows that have the colors shown on the case. This makes it really easy to know which color you are reaching for in your makeup drawer. The cases are really nice and luxurious, they are pretty heavy which I always like in an expensive product. Good packaging needs to happen at this price point! Below are individual pictures of the eyeshadows:
Ombre Blackstar in 10 Midnight Forest:
These are VERY pigmented, creamy and really easy to apply. The gold shade is my favorite because it reminds me of gold leaf. It literally looks like molten gold, and the sparkle…be still my heart! Midnight Forest is also very beautiful, it reminds me of the forest in Colorado where I go once or twice a year to decompress. There are other more “wearable” shades like beautiful pinks, peaches, taupes, etc but I have a lot of those shades and I wanted to try something different for once.
Below is my first attempt at using these Ombre Blackstars…I was unprepared for how pigmented and blendable these are, I had to blend a lot of this out because it looked like a hot mess for a minute there. I applied Midnight Forest on the lashline and lower outer corner, then I used Beyond Gold in the crease and inner corner. Like I said, these are blended out a lot so the true pigmentation isn’t as visible.
In the second look I wanted to use the natural pigmentation of these shadows and just work with it, so I used Naked and Buck from Urban Decay in my crease and lower lashline, then applied Beyond Gold in the center of the lid and inner corner. I then used Midnight Forest as an eyeliner. I prefer this look because it really shows off the beauty of these eyeshadows.
So there is my first experience with By Terry Ombre Blackstar! I enjoy them and I think they are excellent quality. If you want to spend $42 on a cream eyeshadow, then you won’t be disappointed. To compare, I purchased Tom Ford Platinum & Spice Cream Eyeshadows a couple weeks ago and I prefer the By Terry ones. Am I going to get in trouble for saying that with the Tom Ford junkies? lol.
Hope you guys have a wonderful day!
