I feel like its been forever since I’ve posted! My sister was in town and we were busy visiting and spending time with family. She is moving to Australia next week! Also, the holidays are coming up and I am in full time Thanksgiving mode. We are having lunch at my grandma’s house then dinner at my in-laws, where we are having turkey, ham, green bean casserole, homemade parmesan thyme crackers, artichokes, carrots, pumpkin pie and a trifle…and I’m sure I’m forgetting things. Needless to say, after eating our Thanksgiving meals, we are all in food comas and in dire need of exercise. Every year I take secret videos of my uncles passed out in my grandma’s living room, snoring away after too much food and bourbon. Oh the Holidays!
So this is a look I wanted to post ages ago but never got around to it. I realize its winter now, but its a look I created in September when all the gorgeous dark plum lipsticks were being released. The lipstick that inspired this look is OCC Lip Tar Matte in the shade Black Dahlia. I used a lot of Charlotte Tilbury products but this is entirely by accident! I didn’t realize I was using them until I wrote this blog post! I’m just going to show you the look below, then show you pictures of the products I used. 🙂
And here are the products:
For foundation, I used Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in 110. It gives a beautifully airbrushed finish which is what I wanted for such a dark lip. I don’t use much of this because I find it can make me look kind of, well, dead if I use more than 2 pumps. I also used this in place of concealer.
For powdering my t-zone, I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in 01 Fair. Unfortunately there isn’t much product is in this powder (8g) so I bought Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder (14g) for $3.79 and I swear to you, it works just as well and has almost double the amount of product! But for the time being, I am using up CT’s powder. It does mattify and blur fine lines, but the staying power is HORRENDOUS. Like 15 minutes later I have shine on my forehead again. Grrr. Rimmel stays put for much longer!
For bronzer and highlighter, I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow. I think this product is so worth the money. I’ve used this daily for over a year and I still haven’t hit pan! I find the colors to be very on point, the bronzer is quite natural and the highlighter is lovely. The bronzer was applied in the hollows of my cheek, around my hairline and chin. The highlighter was applied to the tops of my cheekbones.
For blush, I wanted something very light with a hint of color to avoid looking like Ms. Dracula. I love this blush by the way, its my favorite for a natural look. This is Givenchy Le Prisme Blush in #24 It-Girl Purple. I applied just a smidgen on the apples of the cheeks.
The star of the eye look is Charlotte Tilbury Vintage Vamp eyeshadow palette. This is my favorite palette out of her range. I’ve previously talked about this palette here, as well as Dolce Vita, Uptown Girl and Glamour Muse. In short, I hated Uptown Girl (too metallic for me), Glamour Muse is decent and Dolce Vita is my second favorite after Vintage Vamp. I just love the colors in this palette, such rich plums and gold and champagne. These colors are perfect! I mixed the two plummy shades together in the crease, used the champagne shade on the lids with a touch of the gold shimmer shade in the center of the lids.
I also used Charlotte Tilbury Rock N Kohl eyeliner in Barbarella Brown. Sorry for this being Charlotte Tilbury heavy, but I just grabbed what was presented to me when I opened my eyeliner drawer. This liner has INSANE staying power, it will not come off. I had a red mark where I tried to scrub it off! Even with an oil-based eye makeup remover. I like the formulation but this color is very dark on me, even though its a brown. At some point I will probably order the purple color, Elizabeth Violet. Can’t resist purple! After the eyeliner, I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Full Fat Lashes (such a great mascara). For brows I used a mixture of Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyebrow Pencil in Caramel and Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium.
Charlotte Tilbury again…lol. Sorry. This is her lipliner in Savage Rose. I used this to *attempt* to perfect my very uneven and imperfect lip line. One side of my lips is smaller than the other and..it..drives…me….CRAZY. I can spend hours trying to fix it, only to end up with hugely overdrawn duck lips. Now I just accept it, line it and move on.
For those deep purple, almost black lips I used OCC Lip Tar Matte in Black Dahlia. You can also use Tom Ford Black Dahlia, reviewed here. This was very time-consuming to build up to a dark purple lip. This product applies very unevenly but the finished product is absolutely delicious. I loved it! I actually like the finished product much better than Tom Ford Black Dahlia. I haven’t tried Tom Ford’s Black Dahlia with a gloss over the top, but I suspect it would look similar.
Et voila, a very vampy Fall or Winter look! I hope you enjoyed it! Happy Thanksgiving to my Americans out there. And to everyone else, enjoy not gaining 5 lbs this week! 🙂
