I wanted to get this review out as soon as possible so that people can have some swatches of these Limited Edition Tom Ford lipsticks. If you haven’t read my previous review of Alexander, please click here.
I was expecting this to arrive yesterday, the holiday rush must be starting because the UPS guy didn’t get to my house until 9pm. Don’t you hate it when you wait around all afternoon for the UPS/Fedex/whatever person and they either don’t show up or they show up when you pop out for an errand? Ugh. Or if they show up late at night? Oh well at least they showed up, I shouldnt complain about that, especially since I’ve lost packages before! So I received this late last night and I immediately took photos, did a wrist swatch and tried it on. Oh my god…it is so much better than Alexander. Its beautiful!!
The color is more my taste, and the texture is glossy with some fine shimmer particles in the lipstick. Very interesting. It glides on very easily and it is very hydrating. Finally I see why everyone goes crazy about Tom Ford lipsticks! The color was on point, application was effortless, pigmentation was amazing and the hydration was just incredible.
To date I own 4 Tom Ford lipsticks, the Lip Color Shine in Quiver which I love, Black Dahlia, Alexander and Justin. The two matte shades, Alexander and Black Dahlia, are very hard for me to work with. However the non-matte shades are incredible! I suppose the matte formulation is just not agreeable to my lips which get dry easily if I don’t slather them in lip cream every night and morning.
Here are wrist swatches to compare Justin with Alexander. From first glance I would still choose Alexander from a swatching standpoint. If you have the funds to purchase these sight unseen then go forth and purchase, but for the rest of us, I find that swatches of these shades only do so much. You need to try these on in store if possible! Tom Ford is holding his cards close to his chest with this release so there is no description of the formulation (i.e. matte, glossy, etc). Which is a huge shame! I’m all about being forthcoming, I don’t understand why he can’t say this is a matte, this is not, this is a blue pink, this is a warm red, etc. Not to mention they didn’t say which shades were re-promotes. I get cranky with marketing ploys, sorry. I just want a good lipstick that matches my skintone and taste dammit! 🙂
Rant over. For now. Back to the lipstick! Below I have Justin on as a closeup and as a full face. Note it was about 9pm and I was tired from a sick baby so my makeup is fading a bit! I’m going off 5 hours sleep right now due to said sick baby so apologies if I ramble…
I really really REALLY love this color and formulation! Its just a matter of my taste and dry lips I’m sure, but Justin is much better than Alexander. I can’t wait to wear it again today. Oh, on my face I used Dior BB Cream, Clinique Airbrush Concealer, MUFE Artist Shadows in M-532 Sugar Coated Candy, ME-728 Copper Red, and M-600 Pink Brown, Charlotte Tilbury Mascara and thebalm blush in Argyle.
Hope you are having a wonderful Saturday and I hope these swatches are helpful if you choose to purchase some Lips and Boys. 🙂
